Digitalism “Zdarlight” A musical dream for the Bar Rouge: Daft Punk What do you think about clubbing in general and specifically in Shanghai? Things are changing in that people are starting to get bored with DJs here selecting too heavily from the international top 10. Clubs are doing better research for their booking than 3 years ago and we’ve started booking artists such as Basement Jaxx, DJ Falcon and, that’s great, but this is only the beginning… How has the music selection at Bar Rouge evolved since the opening? At the beginning, we were asked to play lounge. That worked very well and from that moment on we had a free hand in the musical direction because we were a hit! We have been consistently developing the Bar Rouge music with Philippe promoting Techno music here whereas I’ve been spinning house and hip hop. In which musical direction is the Bar Rouge moving?All kinds of directions and all kinds of sounds. From a higher level to something more popular. I’d like to have more instrumental and vocal live events, electro and house too, and maybe some crazy hip hop battles. But what I really want to maintain is an honest and real enthusiasm for the music, whatever that music is.Who are some of the guest DJs this year?David Guetta, Joachim Garraud, Big Ali, Dennis Ferrer…..and some big surprises!!!!What musical projects can we expect this year ?Personal productions and Bar Rouge compilations.
2008 is a year of great changes and we’ve already begun with a new Bar Rouge decoration.I guess that 3 years is the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one, and that’s why it was important for all of us to build new bases while keeping the old foundation intact. It’s all about balance and a happy medium. The new decoration follows this philosophy; it’s a complete new concept while maintaining the fundamental elements of Bar Rouge and playing with this idea of balance.This new set up is a kind of rebirth: it’s the perfect time to make a statement and the opportunity to start something new.We will also like to take this opportunity to big up the Bar Rouge core, and continue to push our resident DJ with a real desire to develop a true musical identity.We would also like to expand the idea of dual identity at Bar Rouge mixing the lounge vibes for a chic and glamourous start with the powerful beats for a crazy night.Welcome in the new Bar Rouge…
More than anything, Bar Rouge was a challenge from the very beginning. We were a small bunch of guys full of ideas eager to start something new in the Shanghainese nightlife and clubbing scene. Thanks to VOL, we were handed this amazing opportunity and at the end of the day we didn’t only “bring something new”, but we also changed the nightlife here. Bringing this “French touch” to town was a dare we had to take on!Three years later and we’re still here. More than a philosophy, the Bar Rouge is pure alchemy, a kind of magic formula blending powerful elements that make Bar Rouge what it is today.However much we have been admired or even criticized- we have very good friends as well as enemies- we still take stock of our philosophy in order to better ourselves, and continue to find new ideas which will surprise our guests.Our 2008 will be a year of changes …
Mathieu Brauer: Executive Director YADE No introductions necessary: Mathieu Brauer and the Bar Rouge have been inseparable since the very beginning and they’re both still going strong. Kyle Sun: Executive Director YADE Kyle Sun and Mathieu Brauer have worked as a team from the very beginning and have proven that this collaboration is definitely great and effective. They both are part of the Bar Rouge base. Damien Kay: Resident DJ At the beginning, Damien used to man both the DJ booth and the Cocktail bar, but his love for music steered him towards a full time DJ slot at Bar Rouge. Olivier Ceccaldi: Operations Manager An original part of the team, Olivier was recently promoted to Operations Manager at Bar Rouge. His professionalism and his x-large knowledge of the Bar makes him perfectly qualified to be the new Operations Manager. Lucas Gurdjian : Creative Director Recently integrated to the VOL team, Lucas is the Creative Director of Bar Rouge. Hired for his unique design skills and his awesome ideas, Lucas knew how to fulfil the VOL needs by building a creative & multimedia team.
